Minty Cilantro Chicken Kebabs

Chicken Hariyali Kabab - Minty Cilantro Chicken Kebabs

I have been thinking about getting a George Foreman grill a lot lately. I am attracted to the idea of grilling veggies, kebabs, chicken, just about anything. Paninis for lunch? Sure can do! Just think about it - marinate the meat and then fuggedabouddit. When ready, stick it on the grill and you're done!

Then why haven't I gone and got one already? Should I really buy yet another kitchen gadget that I may realistically only use a couple of times? You know what I am talking about! You see a a new kitchen appliance and it seems to be radiating a glow and all of a sudden the angels start singing. You're convinced that this new gadget will change your world. It will make cooking easy, stress free and healthy. You go out and get it. And it turns out to be less than stellar. You use it a couple of times just because you don't want to admit you were wrong. But then the romance fizzles out. And it gets put away at the back of the kitchen cabinet, using up precious real estate and you slowly forget about it. I present exhibit A - my slow cooker. I was convinced my slow cooker was going to restore world peace. Slowly cook succulent juicy dishes while I was at work and I could come home to a hot meal minus the effort. Unfortunately, it only managed to make me feel like I was eating hospital food. Don't get me wrong, I still managed to make a couple of awesome dishes like this one and this one. But all in all it has fallen short of saving my life. I am not angry, slow cooker; I am just disappointed. So the jury is still out about this George Foreman grill. Do you own one? What do you think about it? Write in and let me know your thoughts!

The Cilantro Mint Chicken Kebab recipe I am sharing with you today would be ideal on any kind of grill - indoor or outdoor. You can also cook it in the oven on the broil setting like I have done here. Vegetarians, don't be disappointed you can try this with paneer (minus the meat tenderizer of course!)

Yield - Serves 4
Prep Time - 15 Minutes + 2 Hours Marination
Cook Time - 15 Minutes

Chicken Hariyali Kabab - Minty Cilantro Chicken Kebabs

Ingredients

1 LB Chicken Tenderloins
1 Cup Mint Leaves
1 Cup Cilantro Leaves
2 Tablespoons Yogurt
1 Tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
1 Teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Meat Tenderizer
1/2 Teaspoon White Pepper Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Chaat Masala
1 Lime
1 Tablespoon Oil
Salt to Taste

Method

Clean and cut the chicken tenders into bite size pieces. Sprinkle the meat tenderizer, salt and pepper. Rub it through and let it sit while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.

Combine the mint, cilantro, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala powder and a little oil in a grinder (I have used the Magic Bullet). Don't add any water!

Blitz it thoroughly.

Add the green marinade over the chicken and let this sit for about two hours. If you've planned ahead, you can leave it in the refrigerator to marinate overnight.

When ready to cook the kebabs, stick them on some skewers. I am using bamboo skewers here that I have soaked in water for about half an hour.

Broil for about 10 minutes. If you have marinated it as long as I have here, it will cook pretty fast so don't over cook it!

Sprinkle Chaat Masala over the kebabs. The chaat masala gives it a really nice kick.

Serve with a  side of yogurt dip (yogurt + salt + onion + chaat masala)

Enjoy!

  1. HA! I did that with my tiny smoothie maker (incidentally, a George Foreman). I used it religiously for about two weeks and then... not. It'd be invaluable for this recipe though, so there's a good chance I'll bring it out again! As for buying a grill... I have a panini maker that I've used probably once, but would use to cook chicken if it had drainage for the oils. The Foreman grill's good for that!

    1. Right?! I have been tossing up between a panini maker and the grill. I reckon I could make paninis in the grill too so I should just get the George foreman?

    2. As long as you made sure the paninis didn't fall out on account of the sloped plate in the Foreman, I think it would see more use (just my opinion, of course!) I think some of the newer versions have an adjustable angle, which would make that problem a non-problem anyway :D
